Ancient man survived by hunting animals for nourishment. The meat provided the requirements the body needed. In time man learned how to have some of these animals be domesticated and bred in backyard. This gave birth to the livestock industry. Edible plants were slowly became a part of the diet as experimented by trial and error. Those that could be had were propagated and made to grow. As man multiplied, he needed to have more stock for nutrition. Timberlands were razed to so that it can be transformed in farmlands. Stretches of land were planted with grain producing grass. Contemporary ways of planting and collecting the grains have increased production. Poultry products now deliver plentiful eggs and the meat has better quality.

People eat different types of nutrients in different countries. In the past this is because they were dependent on what is available in the area. Certain plants do not grow in certain places. Native flora and fauna differ in every region. This also applies to domestic animals. But the fast development of transportation has made the world smaller and it is now easy to import and export products.

The human tongue and sense many flavors. Man can separate distinctions in the bitterness of coffee, the sweetness of sugar, the sourness of vinegar, the bite of a spice, and the saltiness. Cuisines in many countries differ greatly in methods and materials. Preparing food is also an art. Perfect combinations are created every day to satiate a persons appetites.

American cooking is heavily influenced by European cookery because most have ancestor that came from Europe. It also has an African side to it as the colored population mostly came from Africa. European menu is heavy on bread, grape wines, sausages, milk and milk products, and pasta to name a few. Africans like wheat grains, fruit, and vegetables. Asian cooking use a variety of spices and are most often stir fried. Rice is the staple of most Asians.

Human population is multiplying by the thousands and this adds to the burden that nature is already carrying. Large swaths of timberland are gone forever taken over by big cereal tracts. The seas are producing less bounty. The livestock industry though is thriving and numbers have gone up dramatically, the sad part is that as result more waste is accumulated. Man needs to conserve what nature has given.

Beyond the basic need of man to gobble, there is such thing as tasted experience. The preparation tends to please the taste buds more than the stomach. These are call comfort eating.
